2010 marks the celebration of the fifth anniversaries of the release of Serenity and the Can’t Stop the Serenity screenings. It's hard to believe Browncoats are still thriving five years after a movie based on a canceled TV show failed to impress the Box Office, but doing the impossible is kind of what we do… Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS) began in 2006, less than one year after the release of the Big Damn Movie (Serenity). Browncoats worldwide host charity screenings of Serenity as a tribute to Joss Whedon’s June 23 birthday (the screenings now span several months during the summer due to a shortage of film prints). The proceeds from the screenings benefit Equality Now, an organization working to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world. Joss has been outspoken in his support of the organization and gender equality initiatives. The Arizona Browncoats have participated in CSTS since its inception, raising almost $40,000 for charity over the past four years while the global campaign as raised just over $400,000. After the first year of participating in CSTS, the Arizona Browncoats felt it was important for us to give back to the local communities that continuously and generously support our efforts and for the past three years we’ve given a portion of our proceeds to local charities. That means of the $40,000 we’ve donated, just over $5,000 has stayed right here in Arizona. The totals for each year are displayed below:

While the end goal is to raise money for charitable causes, CSTS is also about the fellowship of the Browncoat community. Our community is diverse and Browncoats come from all ages, races, genders, and backgrounds. CSTS screenings give us a chance to make new friends and reconnect with old ones, knowing we all share a common belief in fighting for what’s right. The screenings also give fans a chance to see their Big Damn Heroes in action on the big screen once again, even if it's just for a few hours. So, we hope to see you at one of our shows.
